New Hand Bandhej Cotton Unstitched Suits: Real Tie & Dye, Stitched Your Way

Bandhej is one of India's oldest textile crafts. Every tiny dot is made by hand: artisans pinch the cloth, tie it tightly with thread and dye it, so each piece comes out slightly different and truly one of a kind. Our new Hand Bandhej Cotton Unstitched Suits bring this craft to you on soft, breathable pure cotton, at a price that makes it easy to own more than one.

What you get in every set

  • Fabric: 100% pure cotton. It is soft on the skin and breathable for all-day wear.
  • Work: authentic hand bandhej, traditional tie and dye that is not printed.
  • Unstitched 3-piece set: kurta fabric about 2.5 m, bottom about 2.5 m and dupatta about 2.25 m.
  • Price: ₹895 per set.

Real bandhej vs printed: how to tell

  • Look at the dots: real bandhej dots are slightly uneven, and each one has a tiny raised or crinkled centre where it was tied. Printed bandhej looks perfectly flat and even.
  • Check the back: in real tie and dye the colour goes through the fabric, so the back looks almost like the front. A print is lighter on the reverse.
  • Feel it: hand bandhej often has a soft crinkle that relaxes after the first wash.

Why buy unstitched?

With an unstitched suit you decide everything: neck design, sleeve length, kurta length and bottom style (straight pant, salwar, palazzo or farshi). Your tailor can make it fit you perfectly, which is ideal if standard sizes never quite work for you.

Stitching ideas for bandhej

  • Straight kurta with straight pant: neat and office-friendly.
  • A-line or Anarkali kurta with a gota or lace border: festive and twirly.
  • Short kurta with palazzo or farshi salwar: trendy and comfortable for summer.
  • Use the contrast dupatta border as a sleeve or daman patch for a designer touch.

Caring for hand bandhej

Natural dyes can release a little colour in the first washes. That is normal for real tie and dye. Soak once in cold salt water before the first wash, then hand wash separately in cold water with mild detergent, and dry in shade. Avoid long soaking and direct sun.
